Simple Solutions

It's so simple, yet so hard to do. Letting people merge. We are so afraid to let someone get in front of us that we would rather sit in a mile long queue than make room for the person who is brave enough to drive all the way to the traffic obstruction before getting over. They're right! The way they are doing it minimizes the obstruction. A car accident or broken down vehicle should take up about fifty feet of roadway. When we start getting out of the blocked lane too early we are just extending the fifty foot obstruction to ??? Miles? I have had the personal experience of a longgggg... line of cars in one lane and nothing in the other. So I got into the empty lane and drove by almost a mile and a half  of stopped/stop and go traffic before moving over to travel over a single lane bridge. Be brave. Take the empty lane and drive until you can drive no further. If the first couple of cars won't let you in you'll still be far ahead of where you would have been if you had joined the herd at the end of the line. And, you will have done all of us a favor by moving traffic ahead just that much faster.
